    Abstract Alexandra Art

I create multilayered contemporary paintings, mixed-media & textile works in my home studio. Creating expressions of nature, women and the effects of our society. Throughout my life, my love of travel, exploring food and culture, hiking and foraging are an integral part of my artistic process.

These adventures continually shape the way I see and understand the natural world.

All subjects and forms continually evolve. I want my work to encourage viewers to see that our parks, nature and ecosystems are vital to our lives and destruction of our forests & waterways is ever present. My hope is that by offering viewers a different way of seeing nature, they may develop a deeper awareness of its beauty, complexity, and importance.

Sizes of my art range from intimate, small-scale pieces, to large geometric compositions. Figurative paintings explore transformation through the female archetype, while landscapes reflect places I have encountered and memories I have gathered along the way. My Pathways series is an ongoing body of work inspired by years of hiking, camping and exploring the outdoors. Each represents not only a physical journey, but also a collection of moments and a connection with place.

Clothing waste is an ever growing environmental impact. My textile works are created with used clothing of varying materials and other reclaimed textiles. Each is carefully deconstructed and transformed through a labor-intensive process of hand and machine stitching. I reshape these materials into contemporary abstract forms. Vibrant colors, layered surfaces, and unexpected combinations of fabric create works that are both visually energetic and contemplative. Across all of my work is transformation;  from plants into pigments, random materials into art, memories info landscapes and discarded clothing into something newly valued.

My work has been represented in local and nationwide exhibitions and won numerous juried shows from South Carolina to Marseille, France. Expanding my education beyond my Fine Arts degree, I continue to explore new materials, processes. I create art in my studio in Lexington, South Carolina.
